The Copper Queen – Bisbee, AZ

The Copper Queen Hotel – 2026

One of America’s most famously haunted hotels is The Copper Queen. Located in Bisbee Arizona, it claims to have many spirits inhabit its property. Construction began in 1898 and was completed in 1902 by the Phelps Dodge Corporation for it’s mine investors and dignitaries. Over the years the hotel has had many notable guests which include Teddy Roosevelt, John Wayne, Lillie Langtry and more recently Johnnie Depp to name a few.

A few “otherworldly” guests are permanent fixtures of the hotel, and make themselves available to be seen occasionally. It has been suggested that up to 16 individual entities inhabit the property. The three most notable (and most often seen) are:

  • Julia Lowell – a young “lady of the evening” who professed her love to a client but was rejected and committed suicide.
  • Billy – a young boy whose mother was employed by the hotel. His tragic death was by drowning in the San Pedro river. He was not allowed to swim in the hotel pool. (only guests had that privilege)
  • An older man believed to have been an employee – seen only by staff

I recently had the opportunity to stay on the fourth floor of the hotel. I brought an EMF detector with me, but as luck would have it, I didn’t see or hear anything.
